The 'Work From Home' Problem

The 'Work From Home' Problem     So like most adults around the world, my parents have been working from home since the start of the pandemic. Like most things on this planet, Working From Home has the good and the bad. The good is of course the luxury of being at home, working on your couch or bed. The bad is the pain of taking care of children whilst working. But to be honest, I think Working From Home (WFH) definitely has its fair share of problems. Some of the problems have changed the way we work and the way we study while some have changed the overall behaviour of humans. Here are some of the problems with the new trend (law) that is Work From Home.      The first problem is the routine. Imagine waking up, in a pre-pandemic world, think back to your daily routine when going to work. Now compare that with your WFH routine. What is the difference? It is of course the commute. Your usual 5-8km commute has been shortened to just the few metres between your bed...

June - The Month of Change

Image
June - The Month of Change   Its time for change. Recently, there has been a bit of a 'second wave' of cases sweeping Singapore. The Government has imposed new measures and brought all learning online just like the last Lockdown in 2020. So let's go back to past Farren in 2020 in Lockdown... Farren in Lockdown V1     In the first Lockdown, or as Singaporeans call it, Circuit Breaker, Farren had a bunch of goals. Goals to 'return to normal life better than before'. And I, failed, crashed and burned, collapsed and mentally destroyed myself. It was horrible. But recently, I found my list of goals book still sitting in a small storage box. The goals read:     1. Burn at least 300 calories every day except Weekends     2. Revise for at least 2-3 hours     3. Go on a 2 week Coffee Detox     4. Spend more time with Family     Of the 4 goals, I only accomplished 1 of them. I did spend more time with my family and overall, some goo...

Da 'No Goot' Engwish - Updete For

Da 'No Goot' Engwish - Updete For     So people sometimes come up to me and say "Wow! Your English is so good!". And in response, I thank them, embarrassingly.      People think that having a Blog is having good English and that is not the same, at all, completely. While my current English is good, it's not that good... and that's really not an understatement. The sole reason that I would say my English sucks is because in Singapore there is an unofficial but technically official language called, Singlish, which mixes dialects from different languages to form a type of language. For example, imagine a scene where a plumber is fixing a water pipe for a house owner, the conversation would go like this: Owner: So can fix or cannot fix? Plumber: I see problem liao! This part here broken! Need to pay a bit more to put in new one! Maybe about $150? Owner: Huh! How can! Charge me so much! Want to scam me is it?  Plumber: Then you want me to what? Fix for fr...

A Second Blog nobody asked for...

A Second Blog nobody asked for...     Hello fellow readers, the Opinion Corner is getting a younger brother. Now this younger brother isn't as vocal as his older brother. But before that, let's talk about Opinion Corner's very dead before brother. If you want to skip the part and head straight to the new blog, go down to 'The New Second Blog...' . Farren's Footnotes: The Very Dead Blog     In case you were unaware, Opinion Corner had another brother, Farren's Footnotes . A blog which I used for the primary reason of clarifying and correcting myself. For example, if there was a mistake like that time I spelled 'Immunity' wrongly, I could use that blog to point out my horrendous mistake. Or if I didn't explain a certain topic well enough, I would clarify it on that blog.      Before long I realised that opening a blog all about mistakes was quite a ridiculous idea and when I realised that in 3 months there were only 18 views, I decided to put that ...

Star Wars Day - Shorts

Star Wars Day - Shorts     On the 25th of May 1977, Director George Lucas released his debut film, Star Wars . And so began the release of 9 more films, tens of billions of dollars and a few roller coasters in Disneyland. Until 42 years later, the last ever Star Wars film was released, closing the chapter of one of the most successful franchise in history.      Along with one of the most successful franchise came the most coined phrase from a movie in the world, it has been said in every Star Wars especially during the pivotal moments. That phrase is "May the Force be with you." So popular in fact that a day has been marked to commemorate it. Star Wars Day! Where the 'Force' has been pathetically changed to 'Forth', becoming 'May the Fourth be with you". Where this story begins...     Like me, you are probably wondering how this pun turned into a social norm. Well according to some Star Wars Fans and some News Sources, the first ever time 'May the...
