June - The Month of Change

June - The Month of Change
Its time for change. Recently, there has been a bit of a 'second wave' of cases sweeping Singapore. The Government has imposed new measures and brought all learning online just like the last Lockdown in 2020. So let's go back to past Farren in 2020 in Lockdown...

Farren in Lockdown V1
In the first Lockdown, or as Singaporeans call it, Circuit Breaker, Farren had a bunch of goals. Goals to 'return to normal life better than before'. And I, failed, crashed and burned, collapsed and mentally destroyed myself. It was horrible. But recently, I found my list of goals book still sitting in a small storage box. The goals read:

    1. Burn at least 300 calories every day except Weekends
    2. Revise for at least 2-3 hours
    3. Go on a 2 week Coffee Detox
    4. Spend more time with Family

Of the 4 goals, I only accomplished 1 of them. I did spend more time with my family and overall, some good did come out from a Lockdown. But then again, the entire world was collapsing with some parts of the world in a post-apocalyptic climate while I'm home baking and doing homework.

Now. 300 calories. Terrible goal. Looking at most of my data, I only managed to burn 40-50 calories everyday. Doing a few jumping jacks and maybe stretch a little before calling it a day on exercise. If eating counted as exercise, my calorie count would be through the roof though!

Next was revising 2-3 hours. And this was horrid. While I had the usual 2 hours on Zoom Meetings which can be very boring sometimes, I slacked on revision. After trying to FORCE myself to make pointless timetables, it was all worth nothing.

And finally, go on a 2 week coffee break. To those who are close to me, you will know that I love coffee and drink maybe 2 cups per day so I wanted a small coffee detox and guess how that went? Horrible. My full record was exactly 8 hours. In fact, I could bet that my actual coffee consumption went up during Lockdown as I had to push through all the Zoom Meetings and it was an extreme hassle...

Overall, it was a horrible Lockdown. And I barely got to achieve my goals. So this June Holidays, I want a month of change...

The Month of Change
June is usually to many people, The Month of Change. To reflect on bad habits in the first half of the year and to change to become a better person in the next half of the year. And since, June is a month of holidays for Singaporean students, I want to try to change myself, to become a better version of ME. So here are some new goals for the month of June to scrub the past and bring those old Circuit Breaker to the grave.

    1. Get Fit and Lose Weight
    2. Revise for at least 2 Hours
    3. Read at least 5 books
    4. Drink at least 5 cups of water per day.
    Overarching Goal: Be More Efficient

1. Get Fit and Lose Weight
Allow me to explain. In a recent picture on Google Photos, I posted this:

And while no one has complemented about my weight, I want to try my very best to lose as much of it as possible. To have at least a -0.5 decrease in my weight. I want to try to eat healthier and try especially to go on more workouts.

2. Revise for at least 2 Hours
My recent results have not been the 'BEST'. So I want to try to spend more time on that front especially. I want to achieve the best goals and I think everyone should aim high. In the future, I want to write a very specific insult towards something called SMART Goals. The most pathetic thing I've ever heard.

3. Read at least 5 books
As a New Year's Resolution (even though I don't like to do it), I wanted to read 10 books in one year which sounds very pathetic but hey, it's a start. I have increased that to 20 books and for those close to me again, will know I have a burning passion for non-fiction books and absolutely hate Fiction Books. While I have read Geronimo Stilton and Harry Potter (five chapters of the first book) and those fiction books you read at age 6, reading this genre of books is like walking into a jail cell with a single newspaper from the year 1969. Brutal!

4. Drink at least 5 cups of water per day
I hope everyone knows that the '8 cups per day' rule is false but technically correct but more false than true. I think 5 cups a day is a good start and I have been trying my best to drink 5 cups per day with a PB of 2.35 cups. So hopefully that will go somewhere. Now to the 6 people who think I'm Mr. Smarty Pants here for not saying to decrease Coffee consumption but increase Water consumption, thanks you got me, but seriously, there's no way you can stop a single drop of that beautifully addictive drug to enter my mouth...

Be More Efficient
I think what I want to get out of this month of change is to be more efficient with all that I do. Blogging, Studying, Work, Home etc. And I feel I have been procrastinating a lot in the recent months especially in Secondary School where, in this playing field, there is no time for slacking.

Anyway that's it and if you want to see me talk more about The Month of Change and small videos from the month of change, then please click the Google Album that will be uploaded here on June 1. For the last days of May, I want to build up momentum so that I won't slack too badly when entering June...
