Star Wars Day - Shorts
Star Wars Day - Shorts
On the 25th of May 1977, Director George Lucas released his debut film, Star Wars. And so began the release of 9 more films, tens of billions of dollars and a few roller coasters in Disneyland. Until 42 years later, the last ever Star Wars film was released, closing the chapter of one of the most successful franchise in history.
Along with one of the most successful franchise came the most coined phrase from a movie in the world, it has been said in every Star Wars especially during the pivotal moments. That phrase is "May the Force be with you." So popular in fact that a day has been marked to commemorate it. Star Wars Day! Where the 'Force' has been pathetically changed to 'Forth', becoming 'May the Fourth be with you". Where this story begins...
Like me, you are probably wondering how this pun turned into a social norm. Well according to some Star Wars Fans and some News Sources, the first ever time 'May the Forth be with you' was used was on May 4th, 1979, the same day Margaret Thatcher took office as Prime Minister of Britain when a newspaper referenced the phrase. This took off and the phrase "May the Forth be with you" was seen in TV Shows, Live Debates, Posters before finally, in 2013, Walt Disney Company observed Star Wars Day as an official day. Every 4th of May, all Disneyland and Disney World will celebrate the day with special festivals and events. But the country that seemed to be most associated with Star Wars Day is Canada. On 4th May 2015, the bells in the Peace Tower located in Ottawa (capitol of Canada) played the famous 'The Imperial March' music. That same year, astronauts on the ISS decided to promote this very special day by watching the original 1977 Star Wars film.
In a great PR move on Disney's front, they have been releasing Star Wars films on Disney+ on Star Wars Day such as the recent The Mandalorian.
The Other Star Wars Day...
That's right, there's another one. That is May 25. Why is May 25th another Star Wars Day? Well that's because as mentioned up above, it was the day the first Star Wars film was ever released.
In another great PR move by Disney, the recent Solo: A Star Wars Story film was also released on May 25, aligning with the first ever Star Wars film, 41 years later.
