Fukushima: 10 Years On - Shorts

Fukushima: 10 Years On - Shorts      March 11 2011, in the town of Okuma, Fukushima Prefecture in Japan sits a small nuclear power plant. But before we get to that, let's rewind a couple of days back. It is February 2011 and a few miles out from Fukushima lies the Pacific Ocean where an earthquake had just brewed, launching a huge tsunami straight for Japan. This was the Tohoku Earthquake , the 4th most powerful earthquake in the World since records began in 1900. It had a magnitude of 9.1 and rocked the coastal parts of Japan. This was the cause of the now notorious Fukushima Disaster, a disaster that still lives on till this day. Anyway, now let's get back to the story. The Overview of Fukushima, Simplifed      ...sits a small nuclear plant then the ground below the plant began to shake. Now before continuing, authorities had warned a few days before March 11 that something was going to happen. It was a matter of the response. Which the Japanese ki...

The Sad Story of the Tokyo Olympics

The Sad Story of the Tokyo Olympics      Every four years, the world comes together and homes in on one city where they send their best athletes to get to the closest thing the world has to The Hunger Games. That event is called the Olympics which is organised by the International Olympic Committee (IOC), The IOC will come up a lot later so just remember that. Let's go back in time to the story and the origin of the Olympics. The Origins of the Olympics      The Olympics first began in 776 BCE but that Olympics is different from the modern games we know today. It involves a lot of explicit stuff which I will not get to right now. That old Olympics died out in around 300 BCE. So just throw that section of the Olympics down the trash. The real Olympics or the one we know today is the Olympic Games and that is where our story begin.      The founder of the modern Olympics is a man named Pierre de Coubertin who had a passion for sportsmanship and...

It's Time We Get Serious about Climate Change

It's Time We Get Serious about Climate Change      Take a look back. Back on our millions of years on this planet we call home. Earth. Back in the day, we started small. Building walls to stop war and revolt before eventually we got bigger and bigger, making boats to conquer the seas, tools to build homes and slowly a population began to grow. In 10000 BC, we began to farm, the crop type and the animal type. Civilisations turned to towns then to functioning cities across the world. We conquered the Atlantic, Pacific and explored the vast swarms of land. The Romans, Franks, Byzantines, Egyptians and more, went around to fight for more. As technology advanced globally we dug for iron and gold and hunted fishes and more. The Ice, Bronze, Iron Age. Until we reach maximum hold, Europe began to take control. From the British to the French and the Spanish and more, we advanced collectively as one kind. But then, we made our biggest mistake ever. Today, it kills millions w...

Let's Remember - February 2021

Let's Remember - February 2021      Two Months Down! Despite the COVID chaos in February 2020, it feels like February 2021 is even more chaotic than that! From A Military Coup to Another Impeachment Trial and then from a Facebook Shutdown to a Grim Milestone . Let's Remember - February 2021. The Cream of the Coup (February)      If I told you to say the first thing that comes to your mind when I say the word 'Myanmar', it probably won't be great. Over the past 15 years, Myanmar has gone through quite a bit of turmoil, including the Rohingya Crisis in 2015 and cases of election fraud as well. While the country has made progress, especially in its road to democracy, it is not big progress. And thanks to the Military Coup, all that progress has gone to waste.       On February 1, State Counsellor (Credits to Zarmin for pointing this out) Aung  San Suu Kyi  along with other leaders were detained following a military coup. The pe...
