Farren's Opinion Corner: The Introduction
Welcome to Farren's Opinion Corner. My personal blog all about my opinions about different news stories. Before I begin though, I would like to introduce myself and talk a little more about Opinions and why it matters in our modern world.
Introduction: All about Myself
Hello. My name is Farren Lee. I am born and raised in Singapore and I am 13 years old (as of 2021). Now before you leave this site after finding out I am only 13. Allow me to explain more about myself. I have always been interested or as others might call a "Flare" in writing and blogging. So much so I was one of the few scribes in my scout unit for two years before graduating. I left and is now currently in Secondary School. To any of the non-singaporean readers, hello to you too, the internet has around 1.5 Billion Articles and I am happy you landed on mine. Thanks!
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
1) Will there be a schedule for your blog?
A: No. But I can guarantee an article every month. It will more likely be an interest to write about a topic. However, If I do have examinations or tests, I might not post much for studying purposes
2) What will you be posting about?
A: I will be posting all about my opinions on different topics and news stories that interest me. I will also have a second blog called Farren's Footnotes if I have other points that I feel is important to mention or just issues I want to clarify. However, if there is a balloon of new information to the subject, instead of just follow-ups on Farren's Footnotes, I will most likely create a Part 2 on Farren's Opinion Corner and act as a continuation of the subject.
As of 6 March 2021, Farren has deleted Farren's Footnotes after inactivity.
3) Do you have other social media webpages
A: No. I know in this modern world, it is common for even a 10-year old to post about their feelings on Instagram and Facebook and Twitter etc. but I think social media is getting increasingly worrying for our civilisation. People rely on not real facial expressions but yellow-skinned emoji creatures to show their feelings and emotions. That said, I am active on certain social media websites such as Reddit and YouTube (I think YouTube is a social media website?)
The Importance of Opinions
According to The Oxford Dictionary, the word Opinion is the beliefs or views of a group of people AND the feelings or thoughts you express to someone or something, rather than a fact.
For all if not for most of human civilisation, opinions has always been an extremely touchy subject. Especially for certain topics like religion, race and politics. In fact, even the smallest of opinions differences can impact and create huge arguments and fights. One of my favourite example is probably the American Civil War (1861-1865). Because of a certain touchy subject: slavery. Caused a new nation to break from the union and left around 800,000 people dead.
Opinions can also affect feelings and emotions. As a student, if the teacher gave double the amount of worksheets he/she had promised to give. I would be pissed. However, if the teacher gave a few multiple-choice questions as homework, I'd go home with my my head-held-high. Opinions though can even cause not just a change in our mood but changes in our actions. We might tend to behave in a different way because we did not get what we wanted (I am sure everyone has felt that)
The Good, The Bad and The Blog
This section of this article will be dedicated to the layout and how I want this blog to come out.
Firstly, I will begin by writing about the basic overview of the subject. (i.e. The broad overview) and to give you a bit of context before the opinion part comes into play. As this will be a blog about news stories, there will be follow-ups depending on how the story evolves. I have already mentioned about follow-ups and topics continuations in the FAQs section (Question 3)
Secondly, will be my Opinions. What I like/do not like. What I hope/do not hope. My thoughts and my feelings and the whole shebang. This is the section where I could lose half of my readers and gain around half of my readers. And this is probably the nitty gritty of my blog.
Thirdly, I will list down the various sources on where I got information for fact-checking purposes. This will help you the reader learn more about the topic itself.
Happy Reading!
